Pohnpei… the tour continues

After all the reconoitering trips I finally had a chance to just go out and shoot some pics. I have to find a day Doug is doing boat work so I can shake free and just dawdle around snapping pics. Doug is not that good at doing dawdle. Here are some Kolonia pics.

It seems all third world countries located on water are full of wrecks. Forget EPA, Navigational Hazards or just simply “Beautify Your Harbor”, wrecks are part and parcel of the landscape. Some are actually pretty photogenic.

And, of course, you have your commercial fishing boats.

Back on land, the people, the scenery and the buildings are what catch your eye.

This is one of the roads up to town... very rain foresty lush.

One of the little denizens of the rain forest.

The dwellings can be very haphazard.. but are also quite colorful.

At the top of the hill is a carver's gathering place. This is one of the many carvers.

This is your typical "mom & pop" store, today manned by the daughter.

Handicrafts in the window.

The view at the top is spectacular. This outcropping is locally called "Giant's Tooth".

A lot of people raise pigs. They are the main course, roasted whole, on special occasions.

Another colorful local home.
